To raise awareness of precautions to take in the planning of group events amid the spread of Coronavirus, SCACPA wants its members to know that the Greater Washington Society of CPAs is conducting two free webinars this week.

A Tuesday webinar is specific to members and organizers of associations and charities that are struggling with questions about cancellations for major events.

On Wednesday there will be a free webinar on business continuity planning for all industries but specific to Coronavirus.

Please feel free to share these links with any individuals or organizations, as these webinars are free to all.

For further resources, consult the CDC’s webpage for advisories on COVID-19. The Greater Washington Society of CPAs also has constructed a page of resources and links.

COVID-19 Webinar: Legal Strategies for Nonprofit Meetings

WHEN: Tuesday, March 10, 2:00 -3:00 p.m. (1.0 CPE)

The news around COVID-19 is changing daily. What can you do now about the threat to your organization’s scheduled meetings and conferences, and what should you be thinking about as you plan for the coming year?

Questions that will be addressed during this webinar:

  • Do your hotel, convention center and other meeting contracts contain a force majeure provision that may excuse performance?
  • How will the cancellation and attrition clauses in those contracts apply if you do or do not cancel an event?
  • What are your negotiation options?
  • If you have event cancellation insurance coverage, will it apply to make your organization whole or will it exclude coverage altogether?

Experienced association and nonprofit attorney Jeff Tenenbaum will walk you through the answers to these questions – and more – as he provides invaluable practical guidance and tips to help your organization navigate what is an ever-growing minefield for the nonprofit community.
