Job Responsibilities
This position serves as a senior member of the Finance department’s management team. Under limited supervision, the incumbent’s primary responsibilities include providing direction, creating controls, and coordinating the preparation and justification of DEW’s State Budget Requests and grant submissions. This position prepares and submits the agency’s upcoming fiscal year budget and ensures each year’s State Budget Submission requests are appropriate and align with agency initiatives, structural changes, and projected changes in grant funding levels.

The Budget Director routinely and effectively communicates budget status and projections to all budget and grant stakeholders and works with these individuals to build their budgets, understand their impact, and ensure alignment with organizational, financial, and program goals. In addition, this role prepares fiscal year forecasts based on budget to actual variances to enable management to make short-term and long-term financial decisions.

Finally, developing processes, documenting procedures, and producing multiple related reports for projecting and forecasting expenditures that are funded by grant revenue is key for this role.

Minimum Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration or a related field and professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, finance or banking.

Additional Requirements
• Ability to interpret complicated federal and state statutes, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to direct the activities of others in the execution of complex financial, budgetary, and automated program systems.
• Thorough knowledge of principles, concepts and practices of federal grants and budgetary systems.
