The South Carolina Department of Revenue has issued a reminder that the following local tax changes go into effect May 1:

Georgetown (County Code 1022)

Local Tax Change: 1% Capital Project Tax – Ends April 30 due to revenue collections

Total State & Local Rate Effective May 1, 2019:

  • 6% General Tax Rate
  • 7% Accommodations Tax Rate

Beaufort (1007)

Local Tax Change: 1% Transportation Tax – Starts May 1 per Nov. 2018 referendum 

Total State & Local Rate Effective May 1, 2019:

  • 7% General Tax Rate
  • 8% Accommodations Tax Rate

Calhoun (1009)

Local Tax Change: 1% Capital Project Tax – Starts May 1 per Nov. 2018 referendum

Total State & Local Rate Effective May 1, 2019:

  • 8% General Tax Rate
  • 9% Accommodations Tax Rate

Saluda (1041)

Local Tax Change:  1% Capital Project Tax – Starts May 1 per Nov. 2018 referendum

Total State & Local Rate Effective May 1, 2019:

  • 8% General Tax Rate
  • 9% Accommodations Tax Rate

Notes:

  • All sales of unprepared food (including but not limited to purchases made with food stamps) will be exempt from the 1% Capital Project Tax in Calhoun and Saluda counties.
  • Purchases of food made with food stamps will be exempt from the 1% Transportation Tax in Beaufort County.

New Municipal Code: The town of Van Wyck has been incorporated in Lancaster County. Van Wyck’s municipal code is 2925.
