Throughout SCACPA’s history, the Association has been about creating a framework of fellowship. You get the most from your membership when you engage with local business professionals, legislators and students.

Our networking and social events are more relevant and rewarding than ever. While we work hard to create innovative connections online and in social media, there is nothing more important than for the Association to be your conduit for human connections and strong community involvement.

SCACPA and its chapters have created a wide variety of events in the coming months, and we invite you to join your peers for activities that can lead to lasting memories and friendships.

Your neighbors across the state get to see how CPAs pool their time and talents to make South Carolina a better place to live. Our Chapters and firms are organizing incredible service projects.

See what your Chapter has planned on our Month of Service page. Some chapters are even incorporating a social event or happy hour once your work is done.

Central – Harvest Hope: Join your fellow SCACPA Central Chapter members on Friday, Oct. 18, 1-3 p.m. at Harvest Hope for a day of hands-on service. After sorting donations, at 3:15 pm, join your colleagues for Happy Hour until 5:15 pm at River Rat Brewery.

Coastal – Beach Sweep & Happy Hour: Members are invited to attend a “Beach Sweep & Happy Hour” on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 2-4 p.m. Garbage bags and rubber gloves will be provided. The beach sweep will conclude at Dunleavy’s Pub, where participants will receive appetizers and two drink tickets. A staple in the Sullivan’s Island community with twenty-five years of business under their belt, this mom and pop Irish pub is full of charm, character and charisma. Don’t forget to tip your server!

Grand Strand – Horry CAST Haunted Hustle 5K: The Chapter will be participating in the Horry CAST Haunted Hustle 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk. Family-Friendly Halloween Costumes are recommended. The Chapter will pay for entry fees for either the 5K Run or 1 Mile Walk for Chapter Members. Please RSVP no later than 10/18/2019. Proceeds will benefit Horry CAST.

Pee Dee – News 13’s Treats for Special Kids: The Pee Dee Chapter is looking for volunteers to help give out candy at News 13’s Treats for Special Kids. The event provides physically and mentally challenged children an opportunity to collect treats in a barrier-free environment that is safe and fun. We are also seeking candy donations.  Over 500 children are expected at this event. Candy donations can be dropped off to Alison Swaggard at the WebsterRogers Office in Florence (1411 Second Loop Rd.).

We also want to hear about any individual projects you are undertaking so we can recognize your service on social media. The result: Clients, businesses and neighbors come to expect that you are a trusted and supportive resource.

Our eight regional Chapters play a vital role in building peer-to-peer relationships.

On our SCACPA Chapters page, we keep you updated on all the latest events scheduled in your area.

If you’re going to be in Columbia early for Fall Fest, we invite you to join us on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 13, as SCACPA members welcomes and congratulates South Carolina’s newest class of CPAs at the South Carolina Board of Accountancy’s CPA Oath Ceremony. This event in the W.W. Hootie Johnson Hall at the Darla Moore School of Business is where new CPAs and their family members will be on hand, so let’s show our support for their achievements.

Last year’s Fall Fest was the biggest event in SCACPA history, and we’re ready for this year’s even at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center to be even bigger. Like, mechanical bull with a Wild West theme bigger. As of Oct. 3, more the 240 of you have registered, and we’re ready to see so many more of you!

Fall Fest 2019 will have a Wild West theme, and there will be no mistaking that after Thursday’s sessions with our Entertainment Night! Bring a guest, because we will have:

  • casino-style games
  • a DJ
  • mechanical bull riding
  • laser skeet shooting (outside, if the weather cooperates)
  • a photo booth. If your wardrobe includes old-timey western clothes, now might be a great time to break that out!

Fall Fest giveaways include stress balls in the shape of a bull; a souvenir pen with a bull on top; and our event bags will be clear plastic bags, which you might want to hang on to for other public events that require clear bag policies.

Plus, our Silent Auction will be back! In 2018, participants bid on anything from wine packages to vacations, and everything in between.

The Fall Fest Student Track is your chance to meet the future of the profession.

During this free event, South Carolina accounting majors will learn how to stand out to potential employers, obtain inside knowledge on the CPA Exam, and mingle with CPAs and other accounting students from across the state. SCACPA Student Members will be able to talk to seasoned CPA professionals and a variety of exhibitors who can best prepare you for a career in the field.

In addition to great networking and educational sessions, SCACPA Student Members are invited to attend Friday’s Student Recognition Luncheon. The SCACPA Educational Fund awarded $44,500 in scholarships in 2019.

The Fall Fest Student Accounting Conference is not just about learning great new skills.  It’s about getting to know those in the profession and having a good time. You are also encouraged to visit our exhibit hall for chances to win prizes and walk away with conference giveaways.

We hope you can join a SCACPA social event soon. The stronger our alignment in building relationships, the better SCACPA can align their strategies that move the profession forward.
