  • VIRTUAL FALL FEST 2020 was a success last week, with more than 460 attendees logged in for our two days of two tracks of Tax and A&A sessions. Thanks to all our speakers who worked so hard in advance to have their presentations recorded for these livestream courses.   • The Catawba Chapter is sponsoring a Livestream Lunch & Learn of “Excel Data Visualization Pivot Tables and More” on Monday, Nov. 16. Microsoft Excel offers an eye-popping range of solutions to generate data visualizations. Participants will explore pivot tables in detail with SCACPA CEO Chris Jenkins, plus be introduced to Power BI.
  • The Governmental Affairs Team will hold its quarterly meeting on Wednesday. Upcoming plans include a review of our upcoming 2021 Legislator’s Tax Guide so that it will be ready when State House opens a new two-year cycle in January. The Team will also meet virtually with representatives from the Department of Employment and Workforce, Board of Accountancy and Department of Revenue.
  • NOW OPEN! Make a Commitment to Making a Difference: SCACPA Has Opened Nominations for Board of Directors and Chapter Leadership for 2021-2022. In an effort to generate as much awareness and interest as early possible, SCACPA is announcing that we are accepting nominations starting in November 2020 for multiple seats on the SCACPA Board and for Chapter Leadership for our 2021-22 membership year. We look forward to receiving your nominations of others – or yourself.
  • The SCACPA CPE Team is excited to announce that the Association has obtained approval from the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) Board to offer CFP credit for five of our courses in December. SCACPA wants to make sure you get the most value out of your 40-hour CPE Bank member benefit by making it possible to fulfill additional license requirements.
  • The Committee of 16 will meet Monday to discuss topics for future B&I courses. SCACPA is committed to bringing you the highest quality offerings in the most convenient, effective, and safe manner possible. If you have an idea about how we can make CPE more valuable with specific speakers or topics, please let us know with this form.
  • The month of December is going to be packed with livestream CPE. Starting Tuesday, Dec. 1, we will offer at least one education opportunity per business day through Monday, Dec. 21. For maximum convenience and flexibility, we will also offer courses on Saturdays and be on the lookout for after-business hours courses that we’ll announce. You can go straight to our Month of December CPE Calendar to see which of the 34 total courses are right for you. Watch your mailbox for our December postcard with SCACPA’s full CPE schedule, and start the month of right on Dec. 1 with two courses on Tech Tutorials and one on Tax Practice Ethics.

Advocate

  • SCACPA is preparing again for another round of the RAP Index Survey, which is an important tool that helps us grow our advocacy programs and advance our positions on the issues that impact South Carolina CPAs. Your voice is influential in your community as an employee, voter and volunteer, and you can let us know about the issues important to you. You will also help us identify the stakeholders within your network and the level of advocacy you are willing to undertake.
  • As we ride out South Carolina’s hurricane season (remember, it lasts until the end of November!), the South Carolina Department of Revenue is offering “Tax Tips for Emergency Preparedness: Securing Your Tax Records.” In addition, SCACPA is helping you be prepared with our Disaster Readiness page to bring you updates when necessary.

Educate

  • The Piedmont Chapter is sponsoring two noontime Livestream Lunch & Learn opportunities in December. Registration is open for all interested members, no matter which Chapter area you’re logging in from. Sign up today!
  • SCACPA has partnered with the Greater Washington (DC) Society of CPAs to bring you livestream CPE. Register now for the Nonprofit Symposium (LIAA40) from Dec. 14-16 (24 credit hours).

  • Thank you to all our members who made a difference by supporting local families in need during October Month of Service. Just from the initial pledges and contributions of our eight Chapters, more than $7,200 is went to support local food banks.
