THIS WEEK:

  • SCACPA is cancelling all in-person gatherings scheduled through the eight-week timeframe recommended by the CDC. SCACPA is committed to delivering livestream rebroadcast courses to you at your location. For a full list of our upcoming livestream and rebroadcast course offerings, go to https://www.scacpa.org/events.
  • SCACPA itself WILL remain open for business to provide you the benefits and services you expect and deserve. The dedicated SCACPA staff will maintain our full office hours and answer every phone call and email you send us. Our technology allows us to work anytime, anyplace, and we will not shut that off. SCACPA focuses not just on helping you remain open for business but successfully navigating the road to recovery.
  • During this time of social distancing, we invite you to make the most of our online open forum community SCACPA Connect. This Association resource allows us to talk to one another and offer support, which we need now more than ever. Read about how to log in and start a conversation All we ask is that everyone abide by some simple rules of SCACPA Connect etiquette.
  • To raise awareness of precautions to take in the planning of group events amid the spread of Coronavirus, SCACPA wants its members to know that the Maryland Association of CPAs is sharing its webinar, “Coronavirus: How to Prepare Your Business, Employees and Customers” on Friday, March 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. Click here to learn streaming options.
  • SCACPA’s CPE Committee of 16 is meeting on Tuesday (via online conferencing). They are putting the finishing touches on the 2020-21 CPE schedule, which will be unveiled leading up to our membership renewal period in May.

Advocate

  • Thank you to SCACPA members who have acted as Key Contact Persons in delivering CPA-PAC checks to legislators for their campaign funds. SCACPA has one of the strongest grassroots networks in South Carolina, and the CPA-PAC is an important part of that effort. The profession has celebrated a long list of legislative victories, but none of those successes are accomplished without legislators who listen to and support our positions.
  • SCACPA is the only organization in the state the protects and promotes the CPA profession. We’re promoting our #WhyCPA campaign to spread awareness about the differences between an accountant and a CPA, and why choosing a CPA is a smart long-term financial decision. We know choosing a CPA is the right decision, don’t you?
  • Central Chapter members, there is a new “Meet Your Legislators” night at the Blue Marlin restaurant on the calendar for Wednesday, May 27. Please RSVP for this free event for sharing conversations with decision-makers in a relaxed environment with hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Thank you for your patience as this event was event was rescheduled due to severe weather events throughout the Midlands in early February. Stay tuned to SCACPA communications for updates on our future advocacy activities.

Educate

  • Save the date for SPRING SPLASH 2020 on May 14-15 in Spartanburg. The CPE Committee of 16 is finalizing the sessions schedule and registration will open soon. We are also planning to offer two livestream feeds of the courses for those who won’t be able to attend in person.
  • SCACPA is now an IRS-approved provider for our tax CPE classes. Watch for more announcements and updates as we enter the 2020-21 CPE season starting July 1 with the new membership year.
  • If you have attended a South Carolina Department of Revenue seminar or workshop and have questions about your certificate or anything related to your attendance, email TaxpayerEducation@dor.sc.gov or call 803-898-5800.
  • SCACPA CEO Chris Jenkins is the host of #TechTuesday, a weekly technology update posted to our YouTube channel. Check out 11 Excel spreadsheet tutorials here and remember to subscribe!
  • If you’ve taken a class via SCACPA’s livestream, you know the convenience of being able to watch and listen to our expert instructors’ presentations at home, in the office, or anywhere you please. We want to make you aware that you are also free to audit a livestream class (or rebroadcast) whenever you like. It’s a great way to expand the scope of your knowledge. To audit a class, there’s no sign-up or fee involved. Simply pull up the SCACPA livestream player at www.scacpa.org/classroom anytime a course is in session. You can read here about the experience of SCACPA Member Sheri Saunders, CPA, of Spartanburg, as she keeps livestream courses playing throughout her workday at her family firm. While auditing a session on the SCACPA Classroom page, you can still access links for materials and join the discussion with our live chat. Registration for livestream is only required to acquire CPE credit.
