  • July 1 is the start of SCACPA’s new membership year, and we’re glad so many of you are renewing your dues for 2020-21. Get equipped with all the benefits SCACPA will offer. Thank you for fortifying the profession to serve South Carolina individuals and businesses.
  • Time is running out for those of you who have yet to renew for 2020-21! We are periodically sending email reminders so that you don’t risk an interruption of benefits of advocacy and networking. SCACPA is the only organization in the state that protects and promotes the CPA profession. We look forward to your reaffirmation of your commitment to the CPA credential.
  • Once you’ve renewed your membership and have your new 40-hour CPE Bank, you can start enrolling for all the learning and knowledge opportunities we have for you in 2020-21 beginning July 1, and we’ll be mailing CPE postcards soon with a list of highlights. Meanwhile, you can check our online CPE calendar for a look at any of the 12 livestream CPE courses SCACPA is offering for July.
  • ATTENTION STUDENTS: Our deadline for other SCACPA Student Scholarships has been extended to June 30. Did you know SCACPA awarded more than $40,000 in student scholarships last year? Awards are intended for juniors, seniors and graduate students, and amounts can range from $500 to $2,500. Apply today!
  • Attention, Piedmont Chapter Members: You’re invited to join us for a Piedmont Virtual Happy Hour on Thursday, June 25, and receive a free e-gift card! We’ve missed seeing your faces these past few months, so let’s catch up with a little conversation and stress relief – straight via video link on Thursday, June 25, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. In lieu of the usual drink tickets we distribute, attendees will receive a thank-you e-gift card.   • SAFETY FIRST, BE PREPARED: Hurricane season has arrived, make sure you review South Carolina’s 2020 Hurricane Guide. It is updated with precautions to remember should evacuations become necessary amid COVID-19 guidelines.

Advocate

  • Stay informed with our weekly View From the Dome newsletter on what happened as the Sine Die resolution was passed. Follow our coverage as South Carolina decides how to reopen for businesses.
  • The Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by former SCACPA president Cheryl Lang, CPA, met via online conferencing with the Department of Revenue and the Board of Accountancy earlier in the month. SCACPA thanks our regulatory partners for all their hard work, and watch SCACPA communications news and updates as it is our hope some form of Conformity can be passed in September.
  • We’re promoting our #WhyCPA campaign to spread awareness about the differences between an accountant and a CPA, and why choosing a CPA is a smart long-term financial decision. We know choosing a CPA is the right decision, don’t you?
  • SCACPA’s online interview with South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce Chief Administrative Officer Jamie Suber regarding your questions about online filing has nearly 2,800 views on YouTube. Continue to post your comments and follow-up questions on SCACPA Connect, and we will work to get you answers. Your membership elevates SCACPA’s ability to vocalize your needs and protect your interests through communicating with our regulatory partners in times of change.

Educate

  • If you’ve already used all your 2019-20 CPE Bank, you can start registering for our June courses once you renew by tapping your 2020-21 CPE Bank.
  • Throughout June, we are featuring an incredible selection of CPE, including our planned in-person Spring Splash tracks of Business and Industry, Government, Nonprofit, Ethics and Variety. SCACPA is committed to delivering livestream CPE to you at your location with these additional selections, as we bring you more than 30 online courses for more than 65 hours of learning.
  • SCACPA’s CPE Committee of 16 met (via online conferencing) to put the finishing touches on the 2020-21 CPE schedule, which will be unveiled as part of our membership dues renewal period.
  • SCACPA CEO Chris Jenkins is the host of #TechTuesday, a weekly technology update posted to our YouTube channel. Check out 11 Excel spreadsheet tutorials here and remember to subscribe!
  • SCACPA is an IRS-approved provider for our tax CPE classes. Watch for more announcements and updates as we enter the 2020-21 CPE season starting July 1 with the new membership year.

  • Thank you to everyone who responded to our 2020 Membership Survey this June. We received a total of 766 responses, with 491 coming from members and 275 from non-members. We are looking forward to reviewing and reacting to the responses. Your incredible support helps us to develop the best ways to get you the information you need as quickly and easily as possible. Look for an announcement soon about the winners of our $100 Visa gift cards!

  • SCACPA is proud to announce three winners of our AICPA Scholarships Award! Jessica Outlaw of South Carolina State University, Kenisha Robinson of Winthrop University and Frederick Uy of Clafin University each received $5,000.
  • The GAP Committee (Growing the Accounting Profession) held a teleconference to discuss the challenges college students will face as campuses decide how they will hold classes in the fall. Thank you to all our Campus Champions!
