  • The first session of the 124th General Assembly will convene at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 12. This will be the first year of a two-year legislative session.   • The CPE Planning Committee will meet on Tuesday to come closer to finalizing SCACPA’s 2021-22 CPE calendar and itinerary for Virtual Spring Splash 2021, with Tax and A&A tracks on May 13-14.
  • The South Carolina Department of Revenue has released its “Tax Legislative Update for 2020” policy manual, which provides a summary of most of the significant changes in tax and regulatory laws enacted during the past legislative session. Find more SCDOR news here.

  • SCACPA has launched a new round of the RAP Index Survey, an important tool that helps us grow our advocacy programs and advance our positions on the issues that impact South Carolina CPAs. Your voice is influential in your community as a specialist, voter and volunteer, and you can let us know about the issues important to you.   • SCACPA congratulates those who now hold seats on the South Carolina Board of Accountancy, as appointed by Gov. Henry McMaster in October and November. The following new BOA members held their orientation on Tuesday:
    • Christopher S. Huggins, CPA, (SCACPA Member since 1991), representing the 7th Congressional District
    • Jada W. McAbee, CPA, (SCACPA Member since 2001), representing the 4th Congressional District
    • Dean Kenneth Whitener, CPA, (SCACPA Member since 1988), representing the 3rd Congressional District
    • Walda C. Wildman, CPA, (SCACPA Member since 1984), representing the 2nd Congressional District

  • LLR 2021 License Renewal Notices have been sent your inbox. Check here to make sure you’re not missing anything. Also: Does your firm have up-to-date succession plans? SCACPA and the South Carolina Board of Accountancy are partnering to remind CPAs that this year’s firm renewal process will address this question as new regulations are in effect. The purpose is that there is an accounting for custody of client records.
  • Upcoming plans for the Governmental Affairs Team include a review of our upcoming 2021 Legislator’s Tax Guide so that it will be ready when State House opens a new two-year cycle in January. The Team thanks all our regulatory partners who are open for business and ready to assist you.
