This goal of this annual publication from our Governmental Affairs Team is to assist our representatives with their specific income tax implications of being a state legislator.   • The South Carolina Board of Accountancy held a Special Called Meeting via teleconference on Friday, Feb. 5, to conclude business left over from its meeting on Jan. 19. SCACPA Board Member and vice chair of the Governmental Affairs Team David Knoble, CPA, made a presentation about progress being made in proposed updates to statutes and regulations affecting the profession.   • VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: SCACPA is in need of a member to volunteer as an Educational Fund Board Member to fill a vacancy as of July 1. Interested members should fill out the Volunteer Interest form at This is a five-year term from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2026. Meetings are held once per quarter via video conference, and scholarship winners are selected at the July meeting. Last year, the EdFund Trustees awarded $64,500 to 43 exceptional Student Members who plan to pursue careers in accounting.



  • While we can’t wait for in-person social events to kick in again, SCACPA’s Catawba Chapter has scheduled two Livestream Lunch and Learn opportunities that are open to all members: Wednesday, March 17: Excel – Working With Data.   • The CPE Planning Committee has nearly finalized SCACPA’s 2021-22 CPE calendar and itinerary for Virtual Spring Splash 2021, with simultaneous Tax and A&A tracks on May 13-14. Be on the lookout for the dates when we will broadcast via livestream the tracks of B&I, Government, Nonprofit and Variety that would have been offered in a traditional in-person Spring Splash.

  • Congratulations to the more than 50 CPA Candidates and Student Members who took part in our recent Virtual Mock CPA Exam. SCACPA and Surgent CPA Review combined resources to offer simulated CPA Exam sections. Participants experienced a simulated exam section, plus were able to view the exam results in real time. Candidates received a ReadySCORE along with a diagnostic report showing areas of strength and weakness as aligned with the CPA Exam Blueprints.
