The South Carolina Association of CPAs earned four “Best in the Business” awards for its communications efforts from the SC Society of Association Executives during a luncheon at their annual conference at the Hilton Head Island Marriott Resort and Spa on Monday, June 3. 

SCACPA earned top honors in the following categories: 

Website or Social Media: Disaster Readiness campaign. In September 2018, SCACPA launched a Disaster Readiness webpage in anticipation of Hurricane Florence’s projected impact on South CarolinaIn the ensuing days and weeks as Hurricanes Florence and then Michael progressed, the site continued to be updated. As hurricane season came to a close, the page was maintained and supported as a year-round preparedness guide so members could plan to be ready for the next emergency. SCACPA not only provided real-time updates during the emergency, we assured members we were actively advocating on their behalf with state and federal agencies. 

Newsletter: Current Assets weekly e-newsletter. Current Assets is delivered to the inboxes of nearly 4,000 members at 7 a.m. every Thursday and contains what SCACPA members expect from the Association: Breaking tax legislation news, news of the profession, coordinated community volunteer opportunities, our educational outreach, social event postings, classified ad opportunities and as-you-need-it professional education. 

Member Recruitment or Retention Program: All-Inclusive Membership. The SCACPA staff of 11 people in a span of over half a year utilized print publications to successfully explain to 4,000 members at an association more than 100 years old how an entirely new system of dues would be assessed and membership benefits were expanding. The 2018 All-Inclusive Membership marketing and public relations campaign began in January with the production of the All-Inclusive Membership Brochure. Membership renewal packets were mailed to members in May. By the time of terminations of membership for nonpayment of dues went into effect in September, we had surpassed our membership renewal goals.  

Single Event or Seminar Marketing: 2018 Fall Fest Accounting Conference. Before 2018, a typical SCACPA conference was a one-day, single-focused event. In 2018, SCACPA shifted to holding two-days mega-conferences for spring and fall. For this and future Fall Fests, we successfully conveyed the story to members that this was not merely education but a can’t-miss experience of networking and socializing. More than 400 CPAs attended Fall Fest at the Columbia Marriott, making it the largest event in SCACPA history. 

Other “Best in the Business” categories include Marketing or PR Program; Membership Directory; Coordinate Series of Seminars; Special Program or Event; Annual Meeting, Conference or Trade Show; and Association Advance South Carolina.
