The South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants is announcing a tax education partnership with the South Carolina Department of Revenue.
SCACPA members will now be able to use the Association’s CPE Catalog to enroll in the SC DOR’s wide range of workshops and seminars.
“This is a natural progression of our relationship with the Department of Revenue,” SCACPA CEO Chris Jenkins said.
Free two-hour workshops include Sales Tax 2018 and Employer Withholding Tax. These are ideal for business owners and accounting personnel, and the workshops can count toward continuing education credit. Topics include filing requirements, registration instructions, and directions for how to complete online payments.
The DOR’s Sales and Use Tax Seminars provide updates based on legislative trends and taxpayer requests, and they are suitable for business managers, CFOs and those who work in accounting or accounts payable. These seminars begin with a Series Preview and Legislative Updates session on March 1 at the Columbia Conference Center.
Seminars are then hosted throughout the state until October and are offered with industry-specific information for Educational Institutions, the Restaurant and Bar Industry, Manufacturing, Retail, and Government and Municipalities.
These seminars, which include audience Q&A opportunities with knowledgeable SCDOR staffers, are eligible for continuing education credit and currently require a $50 fee.
However, once SCACPA members enroll in the Association’s All-Inclusive Membership for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, the seminars will be a free election within the member’s CPE Bank of 40 hours toward CPE credit.
“As we move forward with All-Inclusive Membership, quality CPE products will be one of our signature membership benefits,” Jenkins said. “We are proud to be able to offer our CPAs the chance to learn South Carolina tax law compliance straight from the true authority on the subject, the South Carolina Department of Revenue.”
