Chris Hervochon, CPA, CVA | Member since 2017
SCACPA engagement: Serves on SCACPA’s committees of Member Engagement and Governmental Affairs.
Location: Hilton Head Island
Current gig: Owner of SOAR – a better way CPA. SOAR stands for Strategic Operational Accounting Resources. I specialize in outsourced accounting and taxes.
Current mobile devices: “iPhone 7. No case or screen protector, which drives my wife nuts. I like to live on the edge.”
Current computer: “HP laptop with an Intel i5 and 2.4 GHz and 8GB ram, running Windows 10. Unfortunately, this one is about to be put out to pasture.”
One word that describes how you work (and then why): “Mad scientist. I’m always trying something new, whether it be a process improvement or new software.”
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? “In no particular order: GruntWorx (data extraction), Slide.ly (content creation), Excel 365 and Power BI (data visualization).”
What is your workspace like? “My firm is a relatively new venture and I work from home, so I migrate between a desk in the kitchen, the couch and the kitchen counter. A portion of the kitchen counter is a convenient height for a standing desk.”
What is your best time-saving trick? “Automated workflows with Zapier.”
What is your favorite to-do list manager? “I use Zendesk in my practice, partly automated with Zapier. Basically, I try to manage my ‘to-dos’ the way a help desk would.”
Besides your phone and your computer, what gadget can’t you live without? “My Bluetooth speaker.”
What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else? “Asking questions.”
What are you currently reading/binge-watching/podcast-listening? Reading: “The Anticipatory Organization” by Daniel Burrus. Podcasts: “Simply Tax” and “Perpetual Traffic”. “I don’t watch much TV other than golf and documentaries.”
What do you listen to while you work? “Podcasts, Hip Hop BBQ Pandora channel, or metal (Metallica, Iron Maiden).”
What is your sleep routine like? “Uneven. I generally go to bed around 11 p.m., and we have 3-year-old twins who still like to sneak in during the middle of the night.”
What memory stands out from when you were studying for/taking the CPA exam? “I remember being up until 4 a.m. on many occasions. I also know I consumed way too much Red Bull during that period of my life.”
What is the best advice you’ve ever received? “Rip the Band-Aid off.”
