The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce replaced its legacy tax system in March with its State Unemployment Insurance Tax System. Since the end of the 2018 1st quarter filing period, DEW saw a 34% increase in the number of employers/agents filing electronically rather than by mail.
DEW has announced it will invite businesses and third-party agents to take part in webinars and in-person sessions from July 11-17 that will walk through SUITS functionality and give an opportunity to ask questions.
The DEW has developed a customized communication strategy to connect with small groups of employers and CPAs who would like more personal guidance for filing and payment specifications.

In the new system, employers are provided customizable management tools, including:
- Account transparency and control
- Real-time access to account information
- The opportunity to correspond with DEW representatives with the system
- Multiple wage filing options
- The use of historic data to eliminate rekeying information
- The convenience of system calculations
Liable employers are responsible for submitting quarterly wage reports and paying state unemployment insurance taxes. With SUITS, this process can be as easy as online banking. Those who have not created a user ID within the Employer Self-Service Portal are encouraged to do so in advance of the quarterly filing deadline for the ability to file a quarterly report and payment via the portal.
The department continues to encourage those who have not used the system by learn the benefits of electronic filing and find the resources to help with the process.
To ensure the fastest service, log in to SUITS at https://uitax.dew.sc.gov/. Users can submit questions, request assistance and make appropriate account updates. DEW representatives are available to assist with account inquiries at 803.737.2400.
