Members,

Thank you for your membership in the South Carolina Association of CPAs. By now, you should have received your membership renewal packets for 2018-19. Those who wish to renew can click here or call the SCACPA office at 803.791.4181. The link offers a complete breakdown of our membership package, but I’d like to talk a bit more in response to all who have reached out to us about your SCACPA dues renewal.

We restructured our billing for the 2018-19 membership year because our aim is to build the strongest possible Association for our members.

This transition first and foremost allows SCACPA to promote the profession with our advocacy. Our grassroots efforts lead to changes with legislators and regulators for financial professionals throughout the state. More importantly, we’re there to advocate for you in the event you come to us with your individual challenges. In addition, our educational outreach prepares student CPAs and accounting professionals for the challenges ahead. Our communications team tells the story of CPAs in South Carolina.

We want to do what’s right and ensure our Association is the most relevant and consequential around.

In all our engagements, we want to support local providers and partners. When we invest and interact locally, the relationships result in business development that improves the conditions within South Carolina. Our recent partnership with the SC Department of Revenue to offer their courses and our upcoming news of an alliance with Clemson’s tax offerings are proof of just the start of this.

Perhaps your most urgent questions about the new membership model are about the CPE policy. Our association offers many incredible benefits, and CPE is only one element. We looked at our CPE offerings and asked, “What can we do better?” Our solution is to build a meaningful CPE calendar, with a goal of advocating national and state regulators for a better CPE experience.

SCACPA members said at a rate of 85% that the No. 1 benefit of joining is our CPE offerings. Your new 40-hour CPE Bank is designed to be a breakeven cost once you’ve taken 15 hours.

We understand that members will elect to take certain CPE through other vendors, but SCACPA wants to become your preferred source. The strongest CPE utilizes local resources. We are creating a long-term schedule that gives you “just in time” education with the topics and speakers that most impact the issues facing South Carolina CPAs. National CPE offerings do not often reflect the conditions we face in this state, and we want to champion those courses that offer competency over simply compliance.

If we aren’t offering classes that are relevant to you, we’d love for you to get in touch with us to tell us that classes you need. We are developing local speaker pools that meet the needs of South Carolina professionals, and if you know of one, please put us in touch with a list. SCACPA even offers speaker training several times a year if you’re interested in sharing your specialized knowledge.

We’re glad for all the times through the years when you’ve elected to participate in SCACPA CPE. However, we do not want to be dependent on CPE revenue, and we look forward to providing you the courses that make a difference.

The South Carolina Association of CPAs is the only organization that protects and promotes the CPA Credential in South Carolina, and we’re there when you need us.

Thank you again for reaching out to us, and we invite you to talk to us at 803.791.4181. We will always be more than happy to assist you with whatever you need.

Best,

Chris Jenkins, SCACPA CEO
