The maximum weekly compensation rate for injured workers will climb nearly $23 to $806.92 in 2017, the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission announced.
The compensation rate will be paid for injuries arising on and after Jan. 1, 2017, the commission said.
The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce certified the average weekly wage July 1, 2015 through June 30. State law requires that the maximum weekly compensation rate equals 66⅔% of an individual’s average weekly wage, not to exceed the average weekly wage in South Carolina for the preceding fiscal year.
The weekly maximum compensation rate for next year is 2.9% greater than 2016’s rate of $784.03 per week, according to agency statistics.
Since 2011, weekly compensation rates have climbed 14.5%.
