  • Register your firm with the South Carolina Board of Accountancy. Call (803) 896-4770 to obtain a registration card, a copy of the state law and regulations regarding CPA requirements.  If you fulfill the CPE as required by South Carolina law, you will have fulfilled the membership requirements of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
  • Enroll in the South Carolina practice-monitoring program. Contact Glenna Minor, peer review manager at SCACPA, to find out more information: (803) 791-4181 or gminor@scacpa.org.
  • Call (800) 272-3476 for a packet of information from AICPA’s Practice Management Division or visit http://pcps.aicpa.org/
  • Send your change of address, new firm name and information to SCACPA; 570 Chris Drive; West Columbia, SC 29169 or e-mail scacpa@scacpa.org, and to the AICPA; Palladiam I; 220 Leigh Farm Road; Durham, NC 27707-8110
  • Visit South Carolina Business One Stop (www.scbos.com) to obtain a business license, tax information and more.
  • The South Carolina Employment Security Commission will send you an employer’s handbook, relevant forms and posters. Visit www.sces.org or call (803) 737-2588
  • Contact the Secretary of State’s office at (803) 734-2158 to determine if your form of practice must be registered with this office or visit www.scsos.com
  • Apply for employer identification number and remitting forms from the Internal Revenue Service. Inquire about the Tax Guide for Business. Visit www.irs.gov and/or call the Business and Specialty Tax Hotline (800) 829-4933.
  • Check into business insurance. Contact your local agent or call SCACPA at (803) 791-4181 for more information.
  • Join the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants!
