Committee: Accounting Careers/Academic Relations Task Force_

Upcoming Activities/Projects: Website inventory to increase information for accounting educators and students, and researching idea of brochure of South Carolina accounting firms.

Committee: Awards Task Force
Chair/Staff Liaison: Becky Kerr /Emily Allen
Summary of Accomplishments:  Selected the 2011 SCACPA award winners: Bobby Creech, Service to the Profession; Rebecca Lee, President’s Award; Ashley Thiem, Young CPA Award; Kara Shealy, Outstanding CPA in Business & Industry, Dennis Wade, Public Service Award; and Kara Shealy, Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry Award

Committee: Benefits Committee_
Chair/Staff Liaison: James McIlrath/Maureen Taylor
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Clarified the definition of an affinity program partner, and approved the following new partners: Unum Long Term Disability/Care and Pinnacle Network Solutions. 2) Explored an affinity health plan through Southeastern Insurance Consultants with the Home Builders Association of South Carolina (HBA of SC) per their website.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Would like to work with the legislative and advocacy committee to determine if the health insurance issues face by sole practitioners can be addressed legislatively.

Committee: Business Valuation and Forensic & Litigation Services Task Force
Chair/Staff Liaison: Hennie van Bulck/April Cox and Reva Brennan
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Developed a knowledge network on the SCACPA website for members with an interest in this area. 2) Held the first Fraud Conference with the Palmetto Chapter of ACFE. 3) Used the LinkedIn group to network and share ideas.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: 1) Expand the knowledge network. 2) Partner with other professional groups on events and seminars.

Committee: Continuing Professional Education Committee (CPE)_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Rebecca Lee/Reva Brennan
Summary of Accomplishments:  Planned a successful CPE schedule which featured new programs and webinar partnerships that offered over 100 live CPE seminars, 10 conferences, and 500 webinars. Selected the 2011 Women to Watch award winners: Patricia K. Biscopink, Mary Ann Prater, Amanda S. Colgate, and Sherri L. Freudiger.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Plan a successful CPE schedule and look for opportunities to enhance the existing programs and partnerships.

Committee: Editorial Board Task Force_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Charles Alvis/Maureen Taylor
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Focused on including more local articles in the CPA Report magazine. 2) Launched the expanded CPA Report online, in the member’s only section to include videos, photos and additional information on articles featured in the printed CPA Report.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Develop ideas to continue improving the CPA Report.

Committee: Educational Fund, Inc.
Chair/Staff Liaison: Angel Hamilton/Glenna Minor
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) A new endowed scholarship set-up and awarded this year. 2) A second scholarship by Central Chapter designated for a graduate student. 3) Sea Island Chapter gave an additional $2500 to their endowed scholarship. 3) Coastal Chapter fully funded the Francis Humphries Scholarship which will be awarded in 2012. 4) Awarded 20 scholarships totaling $20,500 to students representing 13 different colleges and universities in South Carolina.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Continue to find ways to fully endow Francis Humphries Scholarship.

Committee: Financial Literacy Task Force_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Ken Newhouse/Maureen Taylor
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Updated GED Program “Common Sense” PowerPoint and student workbook. 2) Voted to partner with Junior Achievement (JA) in 2012. 3) Voted to reduce the size of the task force and have representation mirror chapters.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Working with JA staff to identify JA rep that will serve as point of contact for task force members/volunteers.

Committee: Investment Committee_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Valerie Rumbough/Karen Hancock
Summary of Accomplishments:  Monitored the performance of the Education Fund and SCACPA investments.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Continue to monitor the SCACPA investments and Education Fund and make any necessary changes.

Committee: Managing Partners Task Force_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Dave Masters /Erin Hardwick & Reva Brennan
Summary of Accomplishments:  Held a managing partners breakfast during the CPA Summit which featured Joy Reutter with the McGladry Group on Understanding Generational Differences to Build a More Effective Team.

Committee: Membership Committee
Chair/Staff Liaison: Larry Mack/Maureen Taylor
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Hired Work Volf Consultants to conduct membership study through surveys and focus groups. The results will be announced in the first quarter of 2012. 2) Recommended shortening the length of the renewal cycle.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Review the membership study results as provided by Work Volf Consultants and determine next course of action.

Committee: Nominating Committee_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Bob Baldwin/Erin Hardwick
Summary of Accomplishments:  Selected the 2012 slate of officers: Michael Putich, Chair; Sharon Mann, Chair-elect; Malynda Grimsley, Vice Chair; Bratton Fennell, Treasure; Penny Lewis, At Large Director; and Suzanne Harnois, At Large Director.

Committee: Peer Review Committee_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Tom Dewitt/Glenna Minor
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Added four new members to the committee. 2) Acted upon 88 engagement and 82 system reviews for a total of 170. 3) The Peer Review Committee received a clean AICPA oversight.

Committee: Political Action Committee (PAC)
Chair/Staff Liaison: Doug Snyder/Erin Hardwick
Summary of Accomplishments:  Raised $21,810 for the PAC through dues renewal.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Provide campaign contributions for the primary and general elections.

Committee: Personal Financial Planning Task Force

Summary of Accomplishments:  Planned a successful PFP Conference.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Create a knowledge network group on the SCACPA website for members with an interest in this area.

Committee: Sustainability Task Force_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Rich Waycaster/Erin Hardwick & Emily Allen
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Surveyed SCACPA members regarding sustainability. 2) Contacted state universities regarding sustainability initiatives and programs. 3) Developed a successful Sustainability Conference. 4) Posted sustainability resources, articles, and educational materials on the website.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: Dissolved task force December 31, 2011.

Committee: Taxation Committee_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Charles Ayers/Reva Brennan
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Planned the tax track at the CPA Summit, 2) Held a joint meeting with the IRS and DOR, 3) Prepared the legislative tax guide, and 4) Created a knowledge network on the SCACPA website for CPAs with an interest in taxation.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: 1) Prepare and deliver the 2012 tax guide, 2) Plan the tax track at the Summit, 3) Update the knowledge network.

Committee: Technical Standards Committee
Chair/Staff Liaison: Joe Beck/April Cox
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Assisted CPE Committee in planning a successful A&A Conference. 2) Reviewed exposure drafts to determine if a response was needed.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: 1) Continue to review exposure drafts and draft response when appropriate. 2) Assist CPE Committee in developing the 2012 A&A Conference.

Committee: Technology Committee
Chair/Staff Liaison: Keith Vincent/Karen Hancock
Summary of Accomplishments:  Planned the technology track at the CPA Summit.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: 1) Plan the technology track at the CPA Summit. 2) Recommend offsite backup plan for SCACPA information system.

Committee: Young CPAs Cabinet (YCPA)_
Chair/Staff Liaison: Ashley Thiem /Emily Allen
Summary of Accomplishments:  1) Held two planning/training sessions, 2) Held the second annual Emerging Leaders Conference, 3) Created a new YCPA Network, and 4) Conducted a community service project with Project Hope.
Upcoming Activities/Projects: 1) Plan the Emerging Leaders Conference, 2) Host local happy hours, and 3) Recruit new members to the YCPA Division.
