2010 Task Force Accomplishments
- Delivered an initial 50-minute educational session at the 2009 SCACPA CPA Summit & Member Meeting
- Held the first three meetings of the Sustainability Task Force
- Divided focus areas into three categories:
- Technical Standards and Advocacy : Research/follow developments in other service industries/ state & national CPA organizations and seek ways to implement appropriate educational programs and initiatives in South Carolina. Study climate change reporting standards and compose educational pieces on how this will affect our profession.
- 1000 Points of Green: Research and adopt a green compliance program for small businesses. Once adopted bring SCACPA office into compliance. Consider a “Green Business of the Year” program or “Green CPA Firm of the Year”
- Awareness: Utilize all of SCACPA’s communications vehicles to reach members with information and resources around the issue of sustainability. Offer CPE on the topic of sustainability, sustainability reporting, etc.
- Created the web page http://www.scacpa.org/sustainability to share articles and information
- Presented a 50-minute session on sustainability in all nine Professional Issues Updates Series locations
- Partnered with Furman and their continuing education program to deliver training
- SCACPA created a staff “green team” to examine ways for the headquarters to become more sustainable
- SCACPA received recognition as a “Lexington County Certified Green Business in October 2010
- Presented a session at SCACPA's 2010 CPA Summit & Member Meeting on sustainability titled, “Green Plus, Sustainability and the Triple Bottom Line” led by the director of the Green Plus Program
- Featured sustainability in the “1,000 Points of Green” Third Quarter issue of SCACPA's SC CPA Report magazine
