As a result of recent natural disasters, many CPAs' clients and local communities have suffered significant losses. CPAs are in a unique position to serve the community should disaster strike our state.
In June 2010, SCACPA and the IRS entered into a formal partnership to provide volunteer training and on-site assistance in anticipation of a federally declared disaster. We will offer ongoing training and resources to SCACPA members. Trained volunteers will be asked to volunteer for at least one day in the event of a disaster; other special arrangements for transportation and housing will be made as the partnership evolves.
The seminar covered:
- FAQs for disaster victims
- Record reconstruction
- Ordering copies of transcripts or tax returns
- Assistance for individuals and businesses
- Most importantly: becoming an effective counselor during a disaster
