Finance Director
Calhoun County will be accepting applications and/or resumes for the position of Finance Director.  This involves responsibility for planning, scheduling, supervising and participating in all phases of the County’s fiscal activities. The applicant will have several years experience in governmental accounting and budgeting.  Must be proficient in Excel, Word , and be able to quickly learn the County’s financial system software. It is highly desired that the applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 5 years of accounting experience, C.P.A. certification or a Master’s degree. This job requires being able to exercise considerable independent judgment in planning, installing, revising and maintaining accounting systems and procedures, and in the preparation of monthly financial statement and reports within the County’s policies and objectives and legal directives.  Must be able to plan, organize, assign, supervise and review the work of a staff of employees engaged in maintaining  he general ledger, payroll, retirement administration, receipt and disbursement of funds, budgetary control, and numerous subsidiary accounts for all departments and funds of the County.  A hands-on management style is required.  Must be able to develop and interpret policies, methods, procedures and work performance for the administration and operation of the department and assist with the annual audit. Position will be responsible for various audit support engagements, these responsibilities include:

Responsibility for data analysis on various platforms, performing coding, documentation and testing.  Must understand major business cycles (procure to pay, order to cash, etc.) to be able to understand data analysis tests in order to articulate results to the supervisor and/or client.

  • Understanding of accounting/auditing concepts
  • Understanding client general ledger systems
  • Validating data format
  • Verifying control totals against general ledger
  • Writing scripts in data analysis programs to meet objectives defined by the audit teams

Areas of audit support will focus on the following:

  • Fixed Asset Analysis
  • Inventory Analysis

Job Requirements:

  • Four year degree with a concentration in accounting or auditing preferred, two year degree with related experience will be considered
  • Prior accounting/auditing experience is a plus
  • Candidates should also have the desire to learn programming skills which will be used to code tests defined by the audit team
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work with the audit team to analyze data results and create ad-hoc reports upon request
  • Will research problems/issues and develop effective solutions
  • Working knowledge of MS Access and MS Excel
  • Knowledge of ACL, and Monarch a plus
  • Must be able to resolve data logic issues and modify data analysis techniques as appropriate

Mergers and Acquisitions Accounting Manager

FINANCIAL ANALYST (Finance Department)
Under limited supervision from the County Chief Financial Officer, analyzes existing county programs and develops new financial initiatives.  Participates in mid-range to long-range financial planning.  Oversees the county’s debt administration.  Provides expertise and ensures coordination of financial activities between governmental agencies. Supervises the Finance Department and provides assistance to other county departments with finance-related matters.  Reviews and reconciles the county’s ledger and assists in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of Beaufort County’s financial transactions.  This position will also help the County’s Finance Department in creating fiscal year budgets.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
At least five (5) years experience in governmental accounting
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.

SALARY:  $45,000 - $60,000 annually DOQ
